One of the major sights to see at Matsushima are crematorium-caves. The area is peppered with small sea caves, some by the sea and some long since dried up. In many cases they have been significantly enlarged (possibly dug from scratch, I dunno) by humans. For several hundred years, from around the 10th to the 19th centuries, these caves were used as crematoriums and tombs (for ashes, not bodies) and sites for funeral services and graves.
This one was particularly big and mysterious, especially with the tree vs. rock war going on in front of it.

This would make an awesome background for a fantasy scene....
Got your chocolates in the mail today! Yay! I have a letter from mom to type out and send as well. She has no technology at all up in the bleak north.
I will be sending you a big long be-photoed e-mail soon, after Emily's wedding. This week has been the craziest, busiest, drivenest week of my life to date. (yes, drivenest is my new word).
I need to return to the studying for my final exam. Love you big brother!
OOh
